Wednesday, January 26, 2005 {home: daly city, ca} wierd combos i was eating a salad the other day and had some leftover ranch dressing in my salad bowl. i had also popped some popcorn and started munching on that... i looked at the ranch dressing and wondered "what would that taste like with popcorn?" so i dipped it in. wow, you would never think it would be good, but it was! it tasted almost like smartfood! Tuesday, January 25, 2005 {home: daly city, ca} job hunting: revisited so i've been busy working away as a contractor in berkeley... while it's not really "permanent" per se, the projects keep a-comin', to the point where it seems that they will be renewing my contract (yet again) for another three months. even though the work will be the same if i go "perm", it'd be nice to get all the benifits (health, dental, what-not). the key to going permanent, however, is that my boss needs to get hired first (she's a contractor too). once that happens, she can hire her staff (me and my co-workers!). i made it a point last year to always look for the next thing in employment, a "plan b" of sorts. but since i quit my other two jobs last october, i've been so focused on space planning (because it's so fun/ frustrating/ challenging/ annoying/ fulfilling/ scary/ frustrating/ annoying/ fun [more on this later]), that i havent been looking around on monster for other opportunities. i also still have to finish my [self-paced] real estate course (a resolution that i've thought of, but havent written down yet [stay tuned]). i really need to look because i'm not even sure that this gig is a sure thing. the first step is updating my resume on monster. even though i hadnt sent out anything in the last six months, i received some nibbles for other jobs these past two weeks. one was from that contract company (let's call them company C) that i did that two week gig in april which was onsite at another company (called company F). when company C called, it sounded like they were offering a contract job again. then, a week later, company F called me directly! they said that they wanted me to continue what i left off with last april (the thing i worked on hadnt been touched since then =P) and that there was a potential for something full time. i asked for a job description. they replied with "did company U contact you yet?". company U was yet another contract company. this means they dont have something full time. =P i have yet to get that job description. so in summary: im getting leads without looking. im getting leads for contract gigs. and it's almost the same lead. =P i'm not about to leave a contract gig for another contract gig. but i am willing to entertain options. i just really need to find more. incidentally, as im writing this, another company (company J) found my resume on monster asking if i'd be interested in a job. looking closer at the email they sent, i realized i had already talked to this recruiter last may and even turned in an application. i replied with an updated resume. i wonder if she'll remember me. * 10:27 PM * bernadette * *

Saturday, January 15, 2005 {home: daly city, ca} happy birthday! four weeks early, but strong and healthy, bianca kirsten david was born today between 6-7pm (basically during halftime of the atlanta/st louis playoff game ;)). weighing in at 5 lbs 15 oz, she looks like vogie! i got a call from my brother at around 3pm today. he told me that my sister-in-law's water broke as she was getting ready for work (today was her last day before maternity leave). they had dropped lanz off at my mom's and were headed to the hospital (cpmc). nico and i were about to go to another birthday party (happy bday joel!) but took a detour to cpmc. it's interestng because when we got there at 5pm, vogie was pretty much chillin in the hospital bed, not feeling any major contractions, just some remnant gushing from her water bag, waiting for her c-section scheduled at 6pm. they would have taken the baby out earlier, but because she had eaten at 11:30am, they had to wait til her food digested before they gave her anesthesia (to prevent choking if she had to vomit out her food due to the anesthesia). nico and i headed to the waiting room to watch the game as my brother (with video camera in tow) accompanied vogie to surgery. fifteen "football minutes" later at halftime, nico said "hey it's 6:50!" i said, "we should go see if the baby is in the nursery!" and sure enough, as we approached the window to the nursery, the were weighing her in! she definitely looked like vogie! it's amazing how quickly it all went down! just an hour earlier, bianca was living inside my sister in law's belly, and now here she was, wiggling and crying as the nurses assessed her health! yay for lanz' baby sister! nico took some pictures, so i'll post some shortly... happy birthday bianca! =D * 9:58 PM * bernadette * *

Monday, January 10, 2005 {home: daly city, ca} wiggles and giggles my nephew lanz is getting to be a grown boy -- he is already one & five months and he is at that age where he copies what you do. i wave my arms in the air. he waves his arms in the air. i clap. he claps. i wiggle my head, he wiggles his head. i laugh out loud, he laughs louder. he babbles, like he's talking to himself, but he can say key words like "this" and "cooka" (cookies), and "mmmmm" when he likes what he's eating. and for some reason, when i go to hug him, he thinks we're playing "chase" and he'll run away giggling.... oh what fun! it's just a funny little thing to see how he's grown so much! pretty soon, he'll be a kuya to a little sister! even tho he wont be the baby anymore, i'm sure he'll still be the silly little ham that he is (i wonder who he takes after.. haha!) when she arrives in a month. =) * 8:14 PM * bernadette * *

Wednesday, January 05, 2005 {home: daly city, ca} happy new ye-- uh, valentines? i went to albertson's today to pick up some snacks. as i walked through the store i noticed some of the left-over christmas items on sale - ribbon, wrapping, bows, and.. valentine hearts? okay, maybe those valentine hearts werent on sale, but it's amazing how quickly retail just takes advantage of the next holiday -- even if it isnt the month yet! i guess this shouldnt surprise me since i did see christmas decorations right next to the halloween ones in october during my short stint at crate & barrel... but somehow, i havent really gotten over the holidays yet. im in hibernation mode -- i just want to stay home and chill (and maybe have a sex and the city season 6 marathon) esp since there were so many parties/get-togethers/kris kringles, etc in the last month. i kind of want to just stay in. im sure however, i'll get back to my old out-and-about self soon. like, tomorrow. ;) * 5:20 PM * bernadette * *
