Tuesday, August 31, 2004 {home: daly city, ca} i'm a free agent one of the things that i learned during the last six months or so of the whole job search is to "think like a free agent". according to the book monster careers, thinking like a free agent is like viewing every job you have (even if it is "permanent") as a contract job. this prevents you from being settled... not that you should hop from job to job every month like i have thus far (yes, september brings me to another contract["permanent"] job! pay is more, and it's what i was looking for! =)), but it's good to know that the job you have right now does NOT have to be the end all be all of your life - it's okay to change. I never used to think like that, but i'm slowly realizing that in this job market, you have to be nimble and adjust but also have some sort of plan. and to have a plan B (C, D, E....). you just never know. not saying i'm an expert on job hunting, i'm learning and adjusting... so hopefully by the end of the week, the temp agency will have someone to replace me at the construction trailer. despite the lack of internet connection and amenities of a regular office - i'll miss those guys, i really learned a lot there! ps. im still doing the other part time jobs... * 11:02 PM * bernadette * * |

Thursday, August 26, 2004 {casa pickerel: union city, ca} poker/work night im at the pickerel house in union city for the start of the bi-weekly poker game. i lost after a few hands, so i started to do some work.... im out of practice. =P i think the last time i played hold 'em poker was at nees and jason's at the beginning of this month. and i didnt win that one. i also havent watched a world poker tour on the travel channel lately. getting a bit rusty. nico, however, is getting a lot more practice than me. [just dont bet the farm!] gee, it's kinda late, we should be headin home soon, gotta wake up in five hours! anyways, just thought i'd post, since i've been a slackin... =) * 11:21 PM * bernadette * * |

Monday, August 16, 2004 {home: daly city, ca} bigfoot i went shopping yesterday (i know!!! i went shopping! i havent done that in a while!) i bought these shoes in red! (arent they cute?!?! what not to wear has inspired me to purchase pointy-toed shoes). for the past six months i've been wearing my sport hiking shoes/running shoes, and i think my feet are no longer used to fashion styled shoes (read: i need room!) everything in a size 6.5, my usual size, is a bit snug and i now need a size 7!! OR, maybe i need a size bigger for those pointy-toed shoes, since i have wide feet. just call me bigfoot. =P but i have cute shoes!!! =D * 7:50 PM * bernadette * * |

Thursday, August 12, 2004 {home: daly city, ca} i started off writing one thing, then... dont you hate it when you start a post, save it as a draft for later, and then when you come back to it, you're not in the mood [read: too tired] to blog about it anymore? (of course, it's not as irritating as writing this one big thing, and then losing it when you post. that's pretty bunk. =P) i deleted what i started off with, and so here we are... im a bit pooped. it's kinda difficult to wake up at 5 in the morning for this temp gig. it's the end of week three and i should be used to it by now. yet im still sleepy when i drive to work. =P it's probably because i'm such a night owl - i'm used to sleeping at midnight or 1am, and it's not even because i was unemployed. i did that even before then... i just gotta get to bed earlier. i cant complain tho. lotsa people do this everyday just like me. =) the weekend's coming, so maybe i can catch up on some Z's then... OMG! how can i forget!? wanted to wish my nephew a happy happy happy FIRST birthday (yesterday)!!! =) happy birthday lanzy-pot! =) i think he cut his hair today (everyone mistakes him for a girl!), but im not sure - we'll have to see this weekend at his bday party! =) yay!! * 5:09 PM * bernadette * * |

Monday, August 02, 2004 {starbucks: foster city, ca} 13.1 i finished the 1st half of the chronicle marathon yesterday in ~ 2 hours and 45 minutes. i was shooting to complete it in 2 hrs and 30 min, so 15 min over isnt so bad. it was cold, that hill WAS killer, and i never felt so uncomfortable in my life at mile 9. all in all it was a great experience, i averaged 12.5 min/miles, and i have a half marathon finisher medal to boot. yay me! =) [my knees/legs forgive me today.] and now, on to the next endeavor... if not, there's always this one. anyone wanna join me? ;) update: oooh, i just looked at my unofficial time (according to the chip)! it's 2:41:11. okay, only 11 minutes off from my 2:30 goal. yay! =) * 5:14 PM * bernadette * * |
