weekend projects
this weekend i set out to do a few things, 1) install the closet organizer, because dad was in town for this weekend, and 2) shop for the snowboarding outfit.
1) closet reorg
the plan: install a closet organizer for more "hanging" space in the closet
the closet dimensions: 3' 10.5" x 2' 5.5" x 8' (width x depth x height) - yes, this is ALL i have to work with =P

it's a good thing i got off work early on friday because it gave time for me and dad to run over to home depot right quick to shop for the necessary parts in the shelving department. when we got home, we took a look again at kuya and vogie's closet (since we were using it as a model for my closet -- they had installed shelving in there previously) to see if we forgot any pieces to the shelvling. and of course we did. so back we went to home depot for a horizontal bar and some screws.

the project took most of the evening, and i felt like the tool time girl, handing my dad the appropriate hardware for what task was at hand. almost like a doctor and nurse scenario in the OR. hehe. it was fun spending time w. dad, esp since i dont see him when he comes home... (on the go girl, busy bee, yadda yadda...;) ) we must have finished at around 9pm.

the result: i now have a "closet and a half" since we put a full bar on top, and half of one on the bottom -- i can hang more clothes.

now for purging. that's another weekend. another project. =P

2) shop snowboard
the plan: go to tricity to shop for the snowboarding outfit

ive been debating all week whether or not to get gear. why?
1. it's the end of the season and i would not have time to go boarding again unless i call in sick on the weekday.
2. it's an expensive sport, and i probably wont have a job in july. do i really want to drop the cash for something i might not be using til fall?
3. i want to take trips. need to save $$

so i figured i might as well just buy a new snowboarding outfit, since it's half off at tricity. i will buy my board/boot/bindings later on.

so that was the idea.

i went to tri city with bev and gary on saturday, and they helped me choose a cool snowboarding outfit (thanks guys!). it was a little difficult finding the right pants size, because most of the smalls were gone. afterwards i decided to "just look" (as sheri says) at the snowboards.
note to you: "just look" to me ususally means, "i'm going to end up buying something anyways"

i looked and looked. and debated.... hmmm... originally i wanted my whole boarding gear to match (yes, i'm prissy like dat ;)), but since i resigned to just getting the outfit first, it didnt really matter if the board/boots/bindings matched anymore, just as long as it didnt clash. hehe, funny i should mention "clash" because that's the kind of burton board i was looking at...

it was between either the clash 147 (black/yellow -- i wanted to be a "bee" ;)) or the clash 143 (grey/blue/black). i ended up getting the 143. it was the last one (well, there was another one w. a ding on it, and then another one on display that was hard to reach....), and it MATCHED my outfit, AND it was HALF OFF!!!! SCORE! (had to follow the meesh theory on shopping).

the result: i bought my snowboard outfit and my board. bev bought her gloves. gary bought his board too. ;) yay!

now for the boots and bindings. which will be another project. another weekend. unless....
we go snowboarding now. you down?!?

there's a riesen for ritz bits
whoever says "things happen for a reason" is right. if it not for one event, another would not happen. here's a good example:
on our tri-city excursion, i decided to pack a ziplock bag of ritz bits cheese sandwiches, in case i got the munchies on the drive down to fremont. when we got there, gary said "oooh, ritz bits!!!" and i said "want some? go get it..." he took the bag. we went in to go shopping.
note to self: never give gary a bag of food if you think that you will want some later.

needless to say, after shopping, just as we were turning out of the lot of tri city, i was hungry for some ritz bits:
"uh, i ate it all"

"what??!?!? you're kidding, right?" i didnt even have any!!

"no, im not. i didnt want to hold it in there, so i ate it all"

"gee, thanks" i was sad.

at this point, bev saves the day. "want a riesen?" a riesen is a caramel covered piece of candy which bev and i were eating earlier at her house. apparrently she had packed some in her bag.

"oh cool, i'll have one" i said. bev then decided to have one too. she recently got retainers, and she couldnt eat with them on, so she searched her bag for the case so she could store them for later use....

"my case isnt here!" she exclaimed. gary and i remembered that she had it before we went to tri city. and while i was trying on some snowboarding gear, they were playing w. gary's penlight laser, and he remembered seeing her case in her purse.

"maybe you dropped it in the store! let's go back..." i flipped a bitch and headed back to the store...

we scoured the store, and bev found her case where we last saw it.... on the bench by the fitting rooms.

"see, if i didnt eat the ritz bits, we would not have discovered bev's case was missing...".

for once gary's sometimes skewed philosophy made sense.

everything happens for a riesen. ;) hehe.

a cold cold easter picnic
spent easter sunday with the family at lake merced in san francisco. it was also my ate doris' birthday. it was a nice day up until we got to the lake, where it was c-c-c-c-c-o-o-o-l-l-l-l-d-d-d-d and overcast. luckily, kuya brought his digital camera, so we took pictures from the day's egg hunt festivities.

another easter birthday
and how can i forget:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAWN!

dont party too hard, now.... ;)

two in a row
out two nights in a row, home before midnight. that's pretty good for me. (the home before midnight part, not the going out... LOL).
two degrees of separation
dawn and derrick had an impromptu get-together dinner for their birthdays on wednesday night. i had all these errands to run, so i wasnt sure i was going to make it, but since i completed them in time, i decided to head over to the ice chalet, scores, in foster city. i tagged sheri along.

the old school gang was there, in addition to a few new faces... and the funny thing about the dinner was finding out how small this world is -- the new ppl i met either knew someone i already knew, or i had met them online previously. it's kinda funny meeting ppl in person who you only know by their screenname. hehehe...

"fortune cookie" garage
i hung out w. voodoo last night in north beach for some angel hair pasta (#30) at calzone's. hockey guy trickled in some time after we ordered our meal. she showed us her albums from her paris and barcelona trips. pretty nifty albums, voodoo! (mental note: i must use the panoramic option on my camera more often!) makes me contemplate my european trip even more... hm... paris? london? rome? oh, the possibilities are endless....

the highlight of our evening was searching for parking... well, of course it was a big ol pain driving up and down the streets around the north beach area (no parking dammit), so voodoo decided to pull into this new garage on vallejo and stockton streets. it wasnt too expensive, but damn it wasnt cheap either... and we realized later why..

each stall had a little piece of wisdom stenciled across on the floor. cute! some were really profound like:
"it is never wrong to ask a question. it is always wrong to be ignorant"
"simplicity of character is the natural result of profound thought"

and some of them were really funny like:
"you can't have everything. where would you put it?"
"the best throw of the dice is to throw them away"

or just grammatically incorrect like fortune cookies usually are:
"people regard you as a friendly"

uh. yeah.

but our personal favorite:
"no parking"

LOL!

half day today
i'm glad we have a half day today... esp since i've been blogging, er, i mean working so hard. ;)

happy easter!

jobless in july
there really hasnt been official word that our client would be renewing my team's contract, but we've approached them three times to ask what they were going to do about us, and they have said nothing. so we've decided to take our fate into our own hands and assume we're closing out the account by the end of june. which means i have to update my resume and try to find another gig. hm, time to rethink the career.....

the thing is, i need a break. a month or two of vacation sounds mighty nice. canada and europe are on the periphery....

.. which also brings me to another piece of disappointing news...

the likha philippines tour is officially cancelled
first it was postponed til july. but then kuya rudi would not be able to go. so the board decided to cancel the trip altogther (with much drama there, btw, which i dont care to go into) and so our fundraiser in april will not be happening (more drama *sigh*).

i guess i could still go to the PI, but it's not as fun as when you're on tour w. your friends...

spring = easter
which also means my birthday is coming up.

oh boy. =P

pothead revival
the casting for this year's 10th anniversary show for Likha was mailed out last night, and it's official. i must balance the pots again. hm. well, that's not accurate, because i actually didnt perform that dance at last year's show. it was actually pulled out/changed due to the very very very very very very stubborn and tempermental pots. (right up there w. my mouse at home. =P) so technically it's not again. this time it's for real. i can't imagine him changing it again, esp for the 10th year show.

oh boy, gravity will be my enemy for the next 6 months. =P

a hash brown, a cup o noodle, and a fuji apple
what i ate for dinner. =P

my quest
as of late, i've been researching -- snowboards, boots, and bindings -- asking people about what they have, what they reccommend, reading up on the internet.... yes, i'm finally going to purchase gear for the sport, esp since the season is nearing an end, and a lot of the stuff is on sale.

cool thing: i will have my own gear, matching outfit and all
not so cool thing: we might not go boarding til next season.. unless i take a sick day in the next coming weeks to do a one day thing... (anyone wanna go?)

so is it worth it for me to buy what i need/want right now? looking at it, i might drop a good 500 on just the main three items, and there's a good possibility i wont use them til next season. =P OR maybe i should invest in some new hockey gear.... or BOTH! ;) well, you know my birthday IS coming up... hehehehehe...

tempermental mouse
can i just say i dont like this mouse? okay.

fixing a flat
i went to sears this morning to have my tire patched. apparently there was a slow leak in my left front tire. last night had been the second time in a week in a half that i inflated the darn thing. it's a good thing too, because the guy said if i drove on it longer, i might have damaged the treads. a new tire, esp my brand, is expensive. it feels good to take care of my car. if i take care of her, she'll take care of me. ;)

joyce and randy's wedding
joyce and randy got married on saturday in san mateo. what a beautiful wedding! *sigh* almost makes me wish i had one.... almost.

not there yet. not even close. ;)

winter madness III
they say a picture is worth a thousand words. see a thousand pictures from last weekend's trip. (okay, well, there aren't a thousand, but what with all the digital cameras at the cabin that weekend, you would think there were!!).

looking out the window
it was a beautiful day yesterday. i wished i was at a park enjoying the sun doing nothing (even though it was windy as hell...). instead, i enjoyed the day looking out the window during dance practice.

this guy sitting next to me really has bad posture.

we're passing the test driving area for the mail trucks. why is the driver's side of the mail truck on the wrong side?

i should really start looking for a job. and fix my resume.

if i loose my job, should i try to become a massage therapist?

damn, it's friday and i cant eat meat.

it looks like it's going to rain.

a career in radio, perhaps?

the guy in front of me is cleaning his ears w. his fingers. iew.

should i go to the 12th street Gap today?

i am ACHEY
i went snowboarding this weekend with the winter madness crew at northstar in tahoe. we stayed in this kick-ass cabin in incline village, where there were about 40 people inhabiting the place..... but, oh boy, i never knew my ENTIRE body could ache so BAD. i did not want to wake up. in addition to the boarding on saturday, we woke up early sunday morning (6am, o-dark-hundred, if you will), drove for 4 hours, and went straight to dance practice from 12-6pm. oh-so-non-stop.

and this week has just begun. much to do, i'll have to elaborate on the weekend soon...

hm, everybody and thier momma brought a digital camera this weekend, i might have to link you to the pictures.... oh BOY!! what a crazy weekend!!! ;) LOL!

class critique
we reviewed the radio show that we recorded last week in class last night. it was strange to hear my voice during the PSA commercial for conserving energy. i mean, i've heard my voice on recordings before, but i guess because i was on actual digital equipment with a good mic, i sounded like the announcer. i got cool comments, since i was "in the moment" and had good "voice quality". =)

the gossip portion of my recording w. my classmate meshell, i felt made me sound airheaded and ditzy. =P i think i said "um" too much, esp since it was ALL ad lib. it's hard to ad lib for 5 minutes!! the class felt we had complimenting personalities, good voice quality, and had a good time listening to us banter (they made fun of me because i was afraid of E.T. when i was a kid!! LOL!!). i still think i sounded dorky. =P i think i need to work on the "um"s and sounding more confident about the things i say when on the air, esp when ad libbing.

mid-term next week: we each do a 10 minute radio show, complete w. news, weather, traffic, and music. oh and a QUIZ. =P

and then the next half of the semester will deal w. tv performance. neat! =)

random purchases
after class, i went to target and bought a sleeping bag and an emergency car kit. well, maybe they were not really that random since i've been meaning to get an emergency car kit for a while (how damn practical!!), and also since we're going boarding this weekend and staying in a cabin w. a bunch of ppl, i thought it time for me to buy a new sleeping bag. it was so late, tho, that my purchases are still sitting in the trunk, since i was too lazy to take them out when i got home. (well, the emergency car kit will pretty much stay in there cuz, duh, it's for the car!) i would like to open up the sleeping bag and see if the bag will keep me warm down to the 20 degree temp that it claims to say on the box.

what i did
weekend recap:
time machine
friday night -- i watched the movie time machine w. gary, bev, kuya, vogie, rob, phuong, phuong's sister, and phuong's sister's boyfriend. i believe it was a remake. what an interesting movie. confusing, yet entertaining, and it makes you think... there were a lot of things left out, i think, like the whole idea of going back to the past, and quite possibly meeting up w. your past self... (you know, that whole star trekkie temporal mechanics thing...) but the main character mostly traveled forward in time and the future that was portrayed was none that i'd have ever imagined. i vaguely remember watching the older version of this movie, so i might have to go check that out... but if you get a chance, you should catch this version at a theater near you.....

lunch w. WGJ
saturday lunch -- i had lunch w. some girlfriends (and one of their boyfriends) at harbor village in embarcadero (yum, dim sum!!! =)). we got together because white girl jen was in town from virginia. i know that sounds bad that we call her "white girl jen" but it's kind of an endearing nickname that we give her, cuz she's so down. ;) melanie, mm, joy, white girl jen, her new beau, drew, and i had our fill of the dishes that just kept on coming to our table.... damn i ate too much! in addition to screening the new beau (you guys are so cute!), we updated jen on the past weddings that she missed. but alas, she will be returning to virginia in the next week to start her new job. jen used to live in the bay area, until she had to move back to virginia because her mom had fallen ill. but it was cool to see her after she moved back last summer. yay for wgj! =)

cleaning my room..... the continuing saga
saturday afternoon -- yes i did it!! i can see your jaw drop, it is an unbelieveable event, i know! i cleaned out my room!! no, gcdc, it's not the "i'll just move things here and there" kind of clean out, i actually cleaned out. i moved everything out of my room, vacuumed, dusted -- dumped all these papers, and weeded out all the shoes, bags, and clothes, that i didnt use/need/want. and even though i did all that i realized -- 1) i still had a lot of stuff that i wanted to keep 2) my room and closet are too small for me (hmmm, move out??... nah!). so what is it that i can't get rid of? i'll tell you:
pictures
i have a ton of them... and photo albums. i have too many. you cant just throw those away, it's like... well, pictures!!! i'll have to reorganize them so that they are all in one bin (or maybe two or three) for storage.

video tapes and cds
since i do a lot of recording of shows and stuff, i found that i have a lot of video tapes. and dont get me started on the cds, cuz i have a lot of those too. another little project of mine to go through.

papers, bills, etc, etc
why do i keep these, esp receipts from 1997???? ugh, it's just the "i need to save this just in case i want to return this" in me. it's not like i ever really return stuff. i end up keeping it! but another little project is going through this bin of papers that i have. (i swear, if i just had two FULL days, all of this stuff would have been over and done with). hey, little by little, okay?

clothes, shoes, bags
this has to be the second time i've weeded in the last couple of months, and i've found that i like most of the stuff that's still left in my closet. but it's the organization of the closet that's making it hard to fit everything in there!! my plan: dad's coming home this weekend, so while i'm off snowboarding, i'll make sure to empty that 3'x4' closet, so he can install my closet organizer. cool thing, is that most of the stuff i got rid of were either, too big (mom, do you want this?), or i havent worn (vogie, do you want this?), or i wore once and it made my feet hurt... (since vogie and i are the same shoe size, she got these cute strappy shoes that i wore only once). i'm just glad someone will get good use out of them.

upkeep and maintenance
so with all this done (or i should say, when all this is done), i'll have to make a conscious effort not to let things pile up in there... cleaning up every day and such. i believe this happened because i got so busy over the last few months. i figure if i do some upkeep and maintenance over the week, it wont get so damn bad. =P
so if you all are going to inspect, i'm still in the process... but it looks much better!

is it spring yet?
it's been cold lately. when's it going to be warm again?! i can't wait til the time changes too....

six degrees... adventures w. angie
angie locked herself out of her house last night, AND she left her cell phone at home. i picked her up from her place and we hung out at my house.... and played the six degrees of separation game to her roommate, rose. rose had recently changed her cell phone number and angie didnt know it by heart -- it was on her cell phone, which was in her house, which she was locked out of. yes, adventure indeed..... angie figured two different routes where she could get rose's cell phone number -- both dead ends cuz we got those ppl's voicemail. =( finally at around 11pm, rose called. she was home!!!! =) yay!!

wrong channel!?!!?!
i'm SAD!!!!!! i record friends, since i have every single episode on tape... but last night i recorded the wrong channel!!!!! ARGH!!! i'm sad. =(

n'sync
yes i saw them on wednesday night. okay, i'll admit i'm a closet fan, although im not as hardcore as those girls who were sitting behind us in the glittered "JC" and "Justin" sleeveless shirts. you go with your bead-dazzler!!! LOL!! the concert was really good, this time at the oakland arena -- a smaller, more pared down version of their last concert in july (see july 22 post) at the oakland colesium. this time there were less prop-age, skits, lights, and uber-odd costumes, and more focus on the singing and dancing of the group with down-to-earth costumes, re-mixes of their songs, and even a visit to the past with remakes of old beetles songs (probably for the parents who were there to take their kids out to the concert on a school night). it was great! bev pretty much captured the essence of the concert. gary had an interesting perspective, but he enjoyed it, except maybe when he napped during the last few numbers... hehehe. not sure if he would do it again, but we'll just see if his gf can twist his arm.... she might not have to twist so hard. ;)

and yes, there were more of the same screaming teeny-boppy girls like last time. no i'm not one of them.

it's raining and i didnt get parking!!!
i usually leave my house at 7:10-7:15am to get parking in the structure at colma bart. but i left a little late (bout 8 minutes late, it was 7:18) , and lo and behold, i got caught up at the top of the parking structure with no parking. =( so it took another 20 minutes to get down from the structure, and park in the flat lot a ways away. and it was raining!! =( SAD! cool thing tho, i saw bev at the top of the structure too, where she missed parking, and so we both got parking in the flat lot, and i had a commute buddy! =)

the show
got to class last night just in time (left work at 5:45 - i was still writing my PSA! -- but made it in 45 minutes!!!), and we walked over to Radio Unica (1010am) to record the pilot for our show called "City College (Almost) Live!". it was kinda neat to be in an actual radio station, complete w. mics and headphones. we were all able to hear ourselves when "on air". it went well -- i got through my PSA (Public Service Announcement - 30 seconds)... but i remembered during my 5-minute gossip spot w. my classmate meshell, i could feel my ears warm up like i was embarrased or nervous or something!! i was not conscious of the time, and didnt get through all the topics we wanted to cover, but we had some good ad-libbing and 5 minutes went by so quickly!! my instructor said, "it's because you were having fun!"...and it was! hm, career change?? .. i dont know... hehe ;) i might have to ask gcdc about his short stint as an overnight dj. ;)

close game
last night was the last of the regular season games in copper monday hockey. we generally have a good amount of people to cover almost three lines, but last night we only had two. it was a good game, tho, because we were practically tied throughout, where each team would take turns scoring. in the end we won 9-8! =) even tho our regular cheerleader wasnt there, we were able to pull through. ;) but we missed you girl! many thanks, tho, to special guest cheerleader, ttg! thanks for coming out! =)

lights, please!
so i'm working in menlo park today, and i'm realizing this building that i'm working in is becoming more vacant each time i visit here. so much that most of the lights on this floor were turned off. i must have spent a good 10 minutes trying to figure out where the light switch was. leave it to those damn electricians during tennant improvements to put the light switches in the most odd places on the floor. turns out it was across the room. =P

i can't print
okay, in addition to lack of illumination, because the network domain settings on my computer are different here in menlo park than oakland, i cant print. i have to print out my copy for tonight's radio pilot. =P i cant even do that.

sitting in the middle of chaos
today, kuya rearranged his room (i should say, he and vogie's room) so that they could make space for the chest of drawers that had been sitting in the middle of the family room for about a month. he moved his computer and computer desk downstairs into the family room where my computer is. an exchange of furniture, if you will. now there is a fat mess -- books, furniture, and random assortments of CAT-5 wire and network cord-age, not to mention computer equipment. i had to climb over some things to find my way to my computer, buried amidst the chaos. he and vogie have been cleaning out the space (yeah i know, gcdc, i need to do that too, but ONE room at a time!) that will be theirs for about 6 months, til they can get a place of their own...

speaking of the newlyweds...
nothing can be worser (more worse?) than being around them. i mean much love to kuya and my sister in law, but DAYAM!!!!! mush mush mush..... they are TOOO DAMN CUTE together. i thought bev and gary were bad (well, you guys arent bad, i just like to tease you ;)). sorry, but kuya and vogie take the cake!! need to visit the store again to refill my barf bag dispenser that i so conveniently installed in both my room and my cubicle. oh and in my car. ;) love you guys tho! =)

weekend, busy, yet not so much...
am i losing my touch? uh oh...

friday night -- we picked up my sister in law at the airport. kuya was so cute, with a pot of tulips in hand, anxiously waiting for her to appear out of the doors of immigration. once she came out of customs, they were all smiles. my dad and i werent paying attention, we were so engrossed in conversation, but kuya found her as she was walking out. they were so happy. *hugs* *smiles* *kisses* wow, it was a little hard to believe that she was finally here!! "someone pinch me!" she said. i took digital camera pictures of them as they walked, pushing the luggage cart. if it was posted on the web, i'd link you to the sappiness. damn they're so cute..... *BLRARAARGGGHHHHH* *wipe mouth*.... ;)

rondalla practice
saturday morning -- i hadnt been to rondalla in a month, only because bryan was out one week, and we hit the bebe sale the other week, and i forgot what else we missed... but it's been so LONG! and we had a quiz!! the guitars (that's me and bev) had to play desposorio by ourselves in front of everyone! *whew* got through that one, but since it's been so long since i've played, most of my calluses were already healing... now there are new ones! need to practice... okay i still have that song in my head....

welcome party
saturday afternoon -- mom ordered some food and had a nice little spread for vogie. the relatives came to meet/reaquaint themselves w. my sister-in-law, and most of kuya's friends actually made it out to meet his bride. i think a lot of them were curious to see who snagged him up from singlehood (heck, I'D be curious too if i hadnt met her yet!!). she was a little overwhelmed by all the new faces.... i wonder what i would be feeling if i picked up and left everything i knew to move to some foreign country with my spouse. SCARY!! but our family is pretty supportive and welcoming, so hopefully her homesickness wont kick in too early.... she is a nice addition to the family. =)

the gig
saturday night -- the likha philippines group had a gig in fairfield to gain some funds to sponsor the trip. it was a cotillion for a likha member's friend. it would have been cool, but it was FAR. and we got LOST finding the place. the performance was LATE. and they didnt really offer us FOOD. =( we were in and out. performing was okay, and everyone enjoyed our two dances, jovencita and paragua (btw, bev, loved that crazy manton twirl... and weezie & jo, didnt you guys love our circular formations and clunking sapatillas?! hehehe ;)) it was cool tho, cuz we got some dough. we should get more gigs like this to sponsor our trip. it's more fun than selling raffle tickets. =P

long practice
sunday day -- and of course can't forget likha from 12-6pm. there's my workout. =)
no five-parties-in-two-days this week. maybe next week ;)

butterfly w. dawn
i hadnt seen dawn since the beer cellar a month ago... (ho dang, that was a MONTH ago!) and we'd been meaning to hang out for a long time now - with much catching up to do, so we hooked up for some drinks and appetizers last night at butterfly, a bar/restaurant in the mission near van ness. what a cool place that was! it had interesting decor -- a spacious, nouveau type place. the walls that separated the bar area from the restaurant were these pieced glass partitions that had compartments of varying degrees of opaque and transparent glass. you could see the rafters and hvac so it was almost a lofty-warehousey feel. and it was dimly lit for ambiance. nice. i almost missed the mini koi pond that was part of the glass partition because i couldnt see it from where we were sitting at the bar. i felt kinda old though, considering we were meeting for drinks (as opposed to meeting at the mall, perhaps, like back in hs?! hehehe) i remember back in the day when i was growing up, "meeting for drinks after work" was like a grown-up thing to do. like, whoa, i'm a grown-up! with a job and bills! oh boy! and of course it's the usual girly chit-chat -- what you been up to? who you dating/doing now? what's the latest gossip? hehehehe.... LOL! (no worries, ttg, i talked up ALL the bad sh*t about you... LOL! ;))

reunited
after six months of being apart, kuya will be reunited w. his wife. vogie's plane comes in from the PI tonight. i havent seen much of kuya these days, only because i've been the on-the-go, busy bee, social butterfly... but i can tell he's really really really really excited. =) yay for them!
